Me? The Dalai Lama?
I was doing the political compas quiz today. Found out that my political leanings (left-libertarian) left me smack on the same point in the map as the Dalai Lama, and pretty close to Nelson Mandela. I have my sociopathic, genocidal moments but the quiz failed to flag these factors. On the other hand, sociopathy is not a political viewpoint, so I guess its okay that it never showed up.
Oh, and I watched Serenity.
Non-spoiler items: I prefer the look of it on DVDs. They seemed clearer, sharper than the big screen. The writer needs his head examined too. Stupid heroic drama and all that jazz. A lot of the kooky fun of the TV series doesn't adapt well to the big screen either. Feel for the Operative dude. I mean, I sorta feel like him some times. Too bad he's the bad guy in this flick. Very definitely a case of extreme LG Paladin syndrome. (and no, I don't want to argue why a lawful good paladin might possibly do bad things - because that's part of the ineffable divine will for the greater good.)
Its a pretty funny movie. And the cinema was full of Firefly fans, because we all laughed at the appropriate moments, when the characters were being ideosyncratic.
The following may be interpreted as spoilers. However, upon re-reading, I think that they're so cryptic that they don't really give anything away. That is unless you're like Nessa and have the deductive abilities of Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolf and Takeshi Kovacs rolled into one. So the massive spoiler warnings probably don't apply to everyone else.

Joss Whedon has just killed the series! Argh! We'll never be able to watch Firefly again! WTF? That was so dumb! So no sequel, and the series can't continue even if the movie does real good because he's so messed it up! I don't believe it! AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
Mal is slightly harder, more desperate here. Which makes his turnaround at the end all the more surprising. The plot/motivations are a little loose for my tastes, and events just seem to fall into place. Instead of the vast, galaxy changing plot, I'd rather have a long caper with the gang. It'd have been more fun and less distressing.
